Letter To My Son

Much more then wrestling

Letter  to my son:

“For richer or poor in sickness or health “words I once said to your mother never knowing they would be for you. It felt like yesterday I was standing at your bed side tears running down my face, watching you fight for your life while the doctors talk about things I know nothing of. I just wanted you better with our without wrestling in our lives. 2 years later and here I stand nervous about you competing for your third attempt to be a Triple Crown winner. Win or lose matters nothing to me, you have nothing to prove you’re already the best in my eyes; win not for me but for you. Stand on top of that podium and defy all odds for that’s what we do best. I love you....Pride is what you have.

This weekend 3000 wrestlers will compete for both team and individual national gold.  Yaya is one of few who will wrestle for a rare opportunity at the Triple Crown. As rare as the opportunity is the actual winner. With a  2x National Championship team and over 20 national champions we have only won one since are start 6 years ago. And yaya stands alone this weekend. But he isn’t alone, don’t miss your chance to watch this young man defy his odds and beat his sickness. This has nothing to do with the prestigious award as it has everything to do with him being able to battle back after his traveled road. One day before Yaya finds himself center stage he will spend his day in Children’s Hospital receiving his infusion which isn’t an option but a necessity for his life. As he struggles to manage his illness you would never know. He never complains, never asks for special treatment, yet he strives to be the best in all he does. This is an opportunity for us to be there to support much more then national glory, but a celebration of life and an amazing effort and display of courage. Be there when he wins his 17th national championship as it will be the most special day to him. Duran wrestling is more than a team we are family and this weekend we will be in full attendance. Be loud, be proud, a champion will be crowned.
